Every value is derived from a speed in metres per second with no intermediate rounding. Rounding (to the second for paces and times, to two decimals for speeds) only happens on display.
- speed (km/h) = 3600 ÷ pace (s/km)
- 1 mile = 1,609.344 m; speed (mph) = speed (km/h) ÷ 1.609344
- time = distance ÷ speed, with 5 km, 10 km, 21.0975 km (half) and 42.195 km (marathon)
Times shown are what you get by holding exactly the pace entered: they are not performance predictions.
The 400 m track
World Athletics geometry: two 84.39 m straights, bends with a 36.50 m inner radius, eight 1.22 m lanes. A lap is measured in lane 1, 30 cm from the kerb: 2 × 84.39 + 2π × 36.80 = 400.00 m.
